Greg MacDonald and Lyle Weinstein present The Montessori Alzheimer’s Project (MAP) applies Montessori principles and practices to the care of individuals who have dementia. In this program, the focus is upon providing home caregivers with practical approaches that improve the day-to-day lives of both the caregiver and the loved one who has dementia. When MAP approaches are implemented in the home, the opportunity for living at home in a loving and supported way is optimized.
This two-session program will:
- Provide attendees with the opportunity to obtain a sense of the challenges that face someone with dementia.
- Examine the impact of dementia upon an individual.
- Examine the impact of dementia upon a home caregiver.
- Introduce some fundamental MAP/Montessori principles, showing how they may be applied to support a loved one with dementia at home, and to support the caregiver.
- Highlight practical MAP applications to the home caregiving environment.
- Examine some critical actions that caregivers should take in order to ensure that their ability to provide care is optimized, whilst ensuring at the same time their own well-being is protected.
