          Description

This course builds the foundation for having a coaching mindset and the core skills related to coaching. Using scholarship, shared experiences, and experiential, simulated coaching, students explore the basics of coaching, including definitions, diverse and varied practices, and creating coach-client relationships and expectations. Students will learn how to notice and name emotions for themselves and through client-centered strategies. Students will also learn the concepts of pausing and staying in a moment and practice these techniques, all of which support coach and client exploration of how personal systems and larger systems impact the goals a client has for coaching. Students will begin to identify their own coaching philosophy, strengths, and areas for growth.
