            Description

            Leadership Essentials is a six-month leadership development program for emerging leaders offered through Loyola University Maryland, in collaboration with Leadership Howard County. From December – June each year, a diverse cohort of approximately 30 individuals from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors strengthen their leadership skills through full-day sessions, one-on-one coaching, and a community service project.

            Sessions are led by subject matter experts and cover the following topics:

            • Self-awareness and emotional intelligence
            • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
            • Effective communication skills
            • High performing teams
            • Conflict management
            • Building collaborative relationships and networks
            • Critical thinking and problem solving

            Additional Information

            Skill-building Sessions: The full cohort will meet 1-2 times/month for sessions on leadership topics such as self-awareness, communication skills, high performing teams, conflict management, and more. Sessions are facilitated by subject matter experts.

            Leadership Coaching: Participants will meet one-on-one with a leadership coach twice/month to determine personal and professional goals, explore challenges at work, and create an action plan. Coaches will help participants develop critical thinking skills, strengthen relationships, and manage conflict.

            Community Impact Projects: Teams from the cohort will support a local nonprofit and further develop their teamwork, project management, and communication skills.

            Hardware Requirements: This course can be taken on either a PC, Mac, or Chromebook.

            Software Requirements: Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

            • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible. Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled

            Prerequisites
            There are no prerequisities to participate in Leadership Essentials, but this program is designed for individuals ready to take the next step toward leadership. Candidates typically live or work in the region, and are viewed as rising stars in their organizations. Applicants are typically emerging leaders, demonstrating a passion and commitment to develop as a leader, have strong communication skills, and a desire to participate in community service. Selected participants represent a cross-section of the community: large and small business, government, education, health care, and nonprofits including the arts, social services, and faith-based groups.
