          Description

          This course introduces students to the rudiments of database design through a process called data normalization. Students receive instruction in using Structured Query Language (SQL) in Microsoft Access.

          Students will earn a certificate awarding 15 CPE credits to go towards professional development.

          Instructor: Paul Tallon is Professor of Information Systems at the Sellinger School of Business, Loyola University Maryland. Prof. Tallon qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC in 1993 and is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He studies a variety of topics at the intersection of IT and accounting, notably methods of computing the financial return on IT investments and methods of assessing the value of information.

          Learning Outcomes

          At the end of this course, you should have an understanding of the rudiments of database design and be able to undertake basic SQL queries against a database.
