Course Description

The first course (Introduction to Data Management and Visualization) introduces students to the concept of Information Lifecycle Management and how to manage data from the perspective of protecting information as a strategic asset. The course also includes a component on data visualization using Tableau.  The second course (Introduction to Database Systems) introduces students to the rudiments of database design through a process called data normalization. Students receive instruction in using Structured Query Language (SQL) in Microsoft Access.

Students will earn a certificate awarding 30 CPE credits to go towards professional development.

Instructor: Prof. Paul Tallon (LinkedIn Profile)

Paul Tallon is Professor of Information Systems at the Sellinger School of Business, Loyola University Maryland. Prof. Tallon qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC in 1993 and is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He studies a variety of topics at the intersection of IT and accounting, notably methods of computing the financial return on IT investments and methods of assessing the value of information.
